A View from Behind the Easel
One artist’s opinion on art and artists
As an artist I have my own unique view of art, what it is, and how it is made. This blog will focus more on artists, art history and how we can relate to it rather than how to make art. This includes how it affects our worldview and impacts our lives, philosophy and culture. The converse of this is also true - how events help shape art. I hope to make this interesting and not boring as so much history is when presented as events and dates to remember. I learned more history when I took art history than I ever did in a regular history class. Art has always been intertwined with philosophy, events and the people in power who created the situations. Art has been both an ally and foe of the power structures. I will also talk some about art process and materials.
I have stayed away from art jargon as much as possible to make the writing more accessible to those who are not familiar with it. I may also explain some terms that will be self-evident or well-known to many readers. So please bear with me, if that is the case
The views expressed here are my own. If I use some written material from somewhere else, I will reference it. The images I use are, as far as I know open use. If I know the photographer, I will provide the credit.

David Hockney says:
Painting can't die because photography isn't good enough.
What does he mean by that? Do you agree?
